Bedbug Management
Do you remember as a child being tucked into bed, and as the door slowly closes and the light from the hallway disappears, you hear “Don’t let the Bed Bugs Bite”? Every month we see stories in the news about recent Bed Bug infestations aboard cruise ships, hotels, and even on airplanes 35,000 feet in the air. But it’s not just vacationers who have to deal with these pesky insects. It doesn’t matter where you live or where you go, there’s always a chance that you could encounter a Bed Bug. At Drake Pest Management, we offer industry-leading Bed Bug treatments for both residential and commercial clients.
How Do You Get Bedbugs?
No matter where you sleep, live, stay, or travel it’s always a good idea to check your mattress, sheets, and pillows for any signs of activity. Contrary to public belief, in most cases, Bed Bugs have absolutely no relation to cleanliness. It doesn’t matter how tidy you are. Clean and spotless homes can still experience Bed Bug infestations. You can find them in the finest of hotels and the fanciest of apartment buildings. Bed Bugs don’t care if you wash your sheets often, shower regularly, or vacuum weekly. Once they find a tiny and safe place to hide, they become very difficult to send packing. Bed Bugs are attracted to the air you breathe out. The best place to check for them is in and around arias you rest your head for extended periods of time. Like the headboard side of your box spring or the headrest of your lounging chair. Bed Bugs are experienced travelers. They easily cling to clothes, shoes, luggage, and used furniture. They can be picked up at movie theaters, hospitals, gyms, busses, and other shared public arias. One of the most common ways to get Bedbugs is by bringing used furniture into your home.
Apprehend is a bio-pesticide meaning it is comprised of fungal spores that are naturally found in the environment. Stored in mineral oil the spores are shot out with compressed air to provide a barrier that Bed Bugs encounter. From there the bugs carry the spores to the nesting sites further infecting others. This is the preferred method of treatment Drake Pest Management utilizes. Traditional dust and chemical pesticides are used along with apprehend as secondary measures.

Bedbug preparation is important in assuring your infestation treatment is successful. • Strip bedding from all beds. • keep cleaned and dirty clothes and sheets separate. • Remove all clutter from the floor. Vacuum and dispose of the bag/canister, then clean the vacuum. • Wash all sheets and clothes on HOT and dry them at a temperature of at least 120 degrees for 30+ minutes. • Removal ALL items from dressers and drawers. Wash then bag them. It is wise to live out of sealed bags or totes till the infestation is cleared. • Remove all pictures, posters, and frames from the wall. • Unplug and leave all electrical equipment in place. • Remove baseboards from walls in bedrooms (this is only necessary in high infestation cases). • Remove all electrical outlets in bedrooms, bathrooms, and living rooms. • Only leave the bed set and furniture in bedroom. This includes empty drawers, dressers, and entertainment stands. ALL other items should be removed. • For aquariums, unplug the filter and cover the tank with a towel during treatment. • Prepare to be out of the house for (6) Hours. This includes all children, pets, and animals. 24 hours for pregnant individuals, kids under two years of age, or persons with underlying health conditions including respiratory or circulatory concerns. Drake Pest Management encourages you to speak to your physician about re-entry procedures if you meet any of the concerns above. • Do not apply water to sprayed areas for 14 days after treatment. Doing so will wash away any residual properties of the products applied. • Keep a few sets of clothes to wear for the next 2 weeks. All other clothing and linens must be dried on high heat for 30+ minutes and kept in garbage bags tied up until after the infestation is cleared. • You should consider disposing of heavily infested bed sets or furniture. These items should be wrapped in plastic before removal to prevent Bed Bugs from falling and infesting other areas. • Drake Pest Management is happy to go over these procedures with you and answer any questions. We can also assist in these preparation procedures at an additional cost.
